The UKR Gators are excited to welcome Ontario’s orienteering community back to Starkey Hills, just southeast of Guelph.

Originally mapped in 1985 at 1:15000 by Olaf Hansson for the Ontario Masters Games, this venue has held numerous events/training days, including one of the first THOMASS events (the original name of the current winter O-Cup Series). We will be using only a small portion of the northeast part of the map at a 1:7500 scale, remapped in 2006, along with some minor trail/vegetation updates in 2017.

Starkey Hills North is heavenly terrain for orienteering. It’s a varied mix of bland/ultra-detailed topography, open mixed deciduous/coniferous forest, and rough/semi-open land. A favorite of many orienteers across the province, its quality is worthy of a National Championship. We are very proud to offer it for an event!

We will also offer a Beginner Course to the event, for beginners to orienteering. While not part of the O-Cup Series, the Beginner Course will give new orienteers a valuable chance to practice and develop their nascent skills. The course will be set entirely on trail, and quite safe for all ages. We do ask that very young children be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
