A few very winter loving athletes made the trek up to Bradford Ontario on what was a typical, perhaps even quintessential, Ontario winter's day. Snow began falling during the race and great fun was had by all. A swift course was set by race director Eugene and course setter Igor Palagnyuk, but everyone had hard work in the 15 or 20 cm of snow on the ground.
First in was the flying Finn Pekka Toivanen, followed by Moldovan superstar Andrei Logvin. First woman was the ever swifter Val Duca, and many others who also performed well. Roman Malanczyj of the Ukrainian Orienteering club was on hand tending to a raging fire in the fire pit, keeping everyone warm.
Prizes were awarded to all, including world-famous Inniskiin Icewine. All in all, a great way to celebrate Canadian winter.
Cheers until next time,
Race director,
Eugene Mlynczyk
PS special call out to Andre Gordon, who completed the course without use of a compass and in very brisk winter gear :-) Also thanks to Chris Evans for helping collect a few checkpoints afterwards on his back country skis. Cheers guys!
